Drop in trip can help nudge in-form gelding over the winning line

1pt win at 8-1 generallyThere's no doubt favourite Rio Ronaldo is a well-handicapped horse, but he's also routinely unlucky in his races, so he's not that hard to oppose at the odds in a big field.

One horse who could be on the improve is Robero, who won three times last summer before finishing in midfield when favourite for a big-field amateur riders' handicap here and has been second on his last three starts, the last two for new trainer Mick Easterby.

By the sprinter Piccolo, he's done most of his racing at 7f, but he clearly didn't last home on the stiff track here last summer and he's looked like winning only to earn the comment 'no extra' on his last three runs.
