David Baxter with his best two-year-old bet at Wolverhampton on Friday
Jojo Rabbit
1.00 Wolverhampton
1pt winThis maiden looks like it should be a straight fight between the two runners who shaped with promise on debut, and it would take a decent effort from one of the newcomers to get involved.
There might look to be much between Jojo Rabbit and Winter Power, but I'm happy to side with the former, for a couple of reasons.
Archie Watson has a 31 per cent strike-rate at the track in the last five seasons with his two-year-olds (20 from 64), whereas Tim Easterby, trainer of Winter Power, is 0-22 for the same period.
Indeed, Easterby has only had three juvenile all-weather winners in the last five seasons, from 91 runners. Watson by contrast, has 68 winners from from 285 runners, a 24 per cent strike-rate.
Winter Power should definitely come on for her debut, as she ran well and was probably unsuited by being on the far side at Newcastle while the winner was closer to the stands' rail.
But Jojo Rabbit showed good speed to overcome a wide draw at Lingfield, which she will need to do again, and I'm hoping Hollie Doyle can get out and make all.
