David Baxter with his best two-year-old bet at Pontefract on Wednesday
Heatherdown Matron
1.15 Pontefract
1pt win
Michael Bell provided this column with its first winner last week courtesy of The Lir Jet, and the hope is he can repeat the feat with Heatherdown Matron.
This filly is a sister to Ebony N Ivory, who won over 6f on debut, while another of her relatives is St Barths, who was a winner over 6f on his second career start.
Clifford Lee also stands out as a positive booking in the saddle. The jockey has a 33 per cent strike-rate for Bell in the last five seasons (7-21) with two juvenile winners from seven rides (29 per cent strike-rate).
The Lir Jet has been Bell's only winner so far since racing resumed, but plenty of his runners have shaped well, particularly his two-year-olds.
