Chuck a few quid at Spear to stun the Classic milers in Sussex showdown

Given the four three-year-old contenders for the Qatar Sussex Stakes (3.10) at Goodwood are the first four in the betting it seems to have been pretty much accepted that the Classic generation are a better bunch than the older milers.

That might turn out to be true, but every one of the four has been beaten, largely by one or more of the same rivals and when there's no clear pecking order it's nearly always safest to assume there are no superstars among them, no matter what races they have won.

They might still prove better than the older generation, whom we know are nothing special, but this is far from a two-horse race between Galileo Gold and The Gurkha and while I'll happily accept the most likely winner is one of those two, I'm equally happy to take them on with Lightning Spear.
