Chester Placepot picks: Paul Kealy provides his perm for day two on the Roodee

Chester's Placepot is obviously going to be top-heavy with low-drawn runners, but there are grounds for opposing those drawn one and two – Jabbarockie and Mondammej – in the opener (1.45).

I would rather side with course specialists Copper Knight and Lihou, who are berthed in stalls three and four respectively.

I'm quite surprised Ontario isn't favourite in the Dee Stakes (2.15), given his trainer's record in the race, and stall seven shouldn't be an issue in a small field over this trip. He looks banker material.

The Mark Johnston-trained Bravado goes in leg three (2.45), as the easy ground ought to suit more than at Newmarket last time and the trip is in his favour.

Japan has never won on his seasonal reappearance, but he hasn't had an easy task like he faces in the feature Ormonde Stakes (3.15) for a while. He should be in the frame given he receives 5lb from main rival Trueshan.

Spirit Dancer and First Impression pick themselves from stalls one and two in the next (3.45), while Russellinthebushes is likely to come on a ton for his debut for local trainer Tom Dascombe and can make the first two in the last (4.15).
