Chepstow Placepot picks: Paul Kealy has a crack at the Welsh National card

There are plenty of big fields at Chepstow, so the Placepot will be tough.

A fair-sized perm to a small unit stake is the suggestion, and we'll start with Gitche Gumee and Out Of Office in the opener (12.00). Both have shown plenty of promise in their short careers.

In the next (12.30) Russian Ruler was slightly disappointing on his return, but still has the best form by some way, and it wouldn't be much of a surprise if the Paul Nicholls-trained point-winning newcomer State Of Power was pretty good.

Silver Hallmark should be far more competitive back over fences in the third (1.05), and he is joined by Red Rookie, who isn't the safest conveyance, but is well handicaped if standing up, and Fugitif, who ran so well on his return at Cheltenham when second to a subsequent winner.

Comfort Zone and Spartan Army should get us through the juvenile hurdle (1.40), while I'm quite keen on Green Book in the fifth (2.10).

It's a tough old race, though, so we'll add Flemenstide, who ought to have more to come this season.

That just leaves the Welsh National (2.50), which is as open as you could imagine, and my three will be The Big Breakaway, Pats Fancy and Musical Slave.
