Cheltenham Placepot picks: Paul Kealy's perm for the track's curtain-raiser

A load of novice races on bottomless ground do not appeal for a Placepot, so it's off to Cheltenham despite the small fields for the early races.

The opener (1.55) had looked a match between Camprond and Off Your Rocco, but with the Gordon Elliott representative now a non-runner, preference is with the Philip Hobbs-trained Persian War winner.

There's more depth to the five-runner novice chase (2.30), so we'll go with chase debutant and , with the pair getting 8lb from Fidelio Vallis.

Prolific mare looks to have a fair edge at the weights in leg three (3.05), but most of her rivals are potential improvers, so we'll add Yala Enki's half-brother , who should improve with the freshness run out of him from last time.

In leg four (3.40) put in a tidy round of jumping when second to Faivoir on his debut at Uttoxeter and an 8lb pull over the extra distance looks very much in his favour.

is the main pick in the next (4.15), but we'll add , a mare who scored with plenty in hand from the front at Warwick last month.

That leaves a big-field amateur jockeys' handicap chase (4.50), and while I think could prove different class, it makes sense to add a couple more.

has been winning well at a low level, while has been given 8lb for his two-year absence and has joined Fergal O'Brien with Derek O'Connor on board.
