Cheltenham looks the long-term aim for this race-fit chaser

Last year Skewiff was trained for the valuable mares' series final at Haydock and it nearly paid off. The CF Roberts Electrical & Mechanical Services Mares' Handicap Chase (1.55) at Cheltenham looks to have been the plan this winter and she can belatedly land a big pot.

At Haydock in April, Skewiff pulled clear with The Bay Birch off the home turn and looked the only serious threat to the winner when coming down three out, the last open ditch.

She was second favourite at the time and deservedly so, but she would have been at least a clear second to a mare who was completing the middle leg of a hat-trick and is now 12lb higher on BHA ratings. Skewiff is now 2lb lower.
