Carlisle Placepot picks: Tom Segal thinks he's cracked the jumps card

The Carlisle card might be the most competitive jumps meeting run in Britain so far this season and cracking the Placepot will not be easy.

To keep the outlay as small as possible it might be worth banking on Rock On Cowboy in the opening novice hurdle (12.50). He looked good when winning his point-to-point and comes from an in-form yard, although the same could be said for a few others.

A case can be made for lots in the following Gordon Richards Novices' Limited Handicap Chase (1.25) but No Regrets will surely have been teed up for the race by Nicky Richards as the race is named after his father.

Jonjo O'Neill won the race last season and saddles the unbeaten Iron Bridge. Who knows how good he could turn out to be?

Wor Verge was a comfortable winner over course and distance earlier in the month and will be extremely hard to keep out of the frame in the Visit racingtv.com Handicap Hurdle (1.58).

The final banker is Navajo Pass in the other handicap hurdle (3.05). He won a Flat race by nearly ten lengths recently and is extremely well handicapped on his old hurdles form.

By far the best race on the card is the Colin Parker Memorial (2.30). It is always won by a horse that goes on to compete in some of the best staying chases later in the season and today's race looks right up to scratch.

Corach Rambler would prefer further but he looked all class when winning the Ultima at the Cheltenham Festival and this stiff track should play to his strengths. He goes in along with Bear Ghylls, who is making his chase debut but was good enough to finish fourth in the 2021 Ballymore.

If you have reached the concluding Placepot leg you will have done well, but don't count your chickens yet because the Dowson Blades Cumberland Handicap Chase (3.40) is tricky.

Houston Texas is two from two at the track and will surely go well but watch out for an improved effort from Rath An Iuir, who is also unbeaten at Carlisle and starts this season on a very good mark.
