Brighton Placepot picks: Richard Birch with a small perm for the seaside track

Pop Dancer, rated 90 during his two-year-old days, competes off just 66 in Brighton’s 5f apprentice handicap (1.00), the opening leg of the Placepot, and could take plenty of beating.

The 11-year-old Shamshon, who usually gives a good account at Brighton, should also be included in receipt of plenty of weight from all five rivals.

Red Treasure shaped nicely on her debut at Windsor three weeks ago, keeping on well in the final furlong to finish second to Corinthian Kid.

Ed Dunlop appears to have found her an ideal opening in the maiden fillies’ stakes (1.35) under Hollie Doyle.

Minhaaj, now 23lb below her last winning mark, takes the eye in the selling handicap (2.10), along with course-and-distance scorer Doc Sportello.

The James Fanshawe-trained Ischia has shown a level of form which ought to be good enough to land the 6f maiden (2.45), while Temur Khan and Hidden Pearl, first and second in a classified stakes at the recent Brighton festival, may again fight out the finish to the 1m4f handicap (3.20), although not necessarily in the same order.

Karl Burke’s Sweet Fortune could prove the answer to a three-runner nursery (3.50).
