Breeders' Cup picks: Tom Collins provides his Del Mar Placepot perm

It's not often that I get to write a Placepot piece about racing at Del Mar! The second day of the Breeders' Cup features nine Grade 1 events, six of which make up an enticing Placepot schedule.

The Filly & Mare Turf (8.59) is arguably the most competitive race with the Aidan O'Brien-trained Love and classy New York shipper War Like Goddess heading the market.

However, both might be vulnerable around Del Mar and preference is for Japanese raider Loves Only You, last year's winner Audarya and outsider Acanella.

Jackie's Warrior, who has had a brilliant year, is banker material in the Sprint (9.38). While pacesetter Smooth Like Strait, the well-drawn Master Of The Seas and consistent Mother Earth are selected in the Mile (10.20).

Letruska, a 17-time winner from 22 starts, is sure to hit the frame in the Distaff (11.00). She's backed up by Royal Flag, who may be the beneficiary of a pace collapse.

Tarnawa is hard to leave out in the Turf (11.40) despite her off-putting draw in stall 11. German raider Sisfahan provides necessary Placepot cover.

Essential Quality and Hot Rod Charlie, who finished first and second respectively in the Belmont Stakes earlier this year, end the perm on a safe note in the Classic (12.40).
