Bold run on the cards from Fahey's likely improver Temerity
Shypen should appreciate the step back up to 6f 7.00 Windsor
After spending most of her career racing over 7f and a mile, Shypen proved a revelation dropped to 6f at Yarmouth two starts ago, spreadeagling her field after hitting the front plenty soon enough on her first encounter with fast ground. With the third, fourth and fifth winning since, there is no reason to doubt the form of that fillies' contest.
Jubilant connections decided to drop her further still at the same track just over two weeks later, but it didn't work out as she struggled to go the pace before finishing third in a race won by a rival she had readily accounted for the time before.
The return to 6f on a faster surface will surely suit a filly who is unexposed at the trip and she is only 5lb higher than for that recent victory, which seems potentially lenient given the way the race has worked out.
Mike Smith has three runners at Ayr who won't mind the soft ground
The West Loudoun handler must be frustrated with the way it has gone this season, having enjoyed his best campaign last term (six winners at a highly respectable strike-rate of 14 per cent). However, most of his horses need cut in the ground, including the three he runs at Ayr, and they will certainly get that this afternoon.
Sophie P(2.30) has looked in good nick in two starts here since the ground changed this month, finishing second to the reopposing improver Cymraeg Bounty and then appearing to hit the front too soon before finishing fourth two weeks ago. She doesn't have many miles on the clock and there should be more to come if she can find cover for longer.
Haymarket (3.40) shaped as though he might be running into form two starts ago and it could pay to forgive him flopping here last time, as he raced wide and without cover. He is 4lb lower than when winning over course and distance last August and there is unlikely to be as much competition for the lead as last time, which will help.
Gworn (4.40) has held his form well since chasing home the improving Euchen Glen here last month, including when fourth in a Class 2 a week ago. This is easier and he is 1lb lower than when winning the race 12 months ago.
The money that came for Temerity on her debut could prove significant 2.00 Ayr
Richard Fahey's filly was sent off at 3-1 at Doncaster last month and, while she was a shade disappointing in being beaten more than eight lengths into fourth, she didn't help her jockey at all by hanging sharply left in the final two furlongs. With that run behind her, the daughter of Zoffany is likely to show a lot more, especially going left-handed for the first time.
It is worth taking a closer look at some other Fahey juvenile fillies who were fancied on their debuts this season. Kocollada, who won at 5-2 at Thirsk in May, finished fourth of 17 in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. Clef, who like Temerity is owned by Cheveley Park, finished third of five at 7-2 at Leicester last month, but has won both her subsequent starts, while Marie Of Lyon, who won at 4-1 at York first time up, was third in a Listed race before finishing fifth in a Group 2 at Ascot on Saturday.
This is a stronger race than Temerity contested on her debut, but she receives a fair amount of weight from all bar one of her rivals and if she goes the same way as her three stablemates did for a run she could improve significantly.
