You're probably fed up with having the phrase 'Cheltenham Festival form' rammed down your throats, but just one quick look at last year's results will tell you why everyone is so mad about horses with solid previous form at the meeting.

Take day one for instance, when no fewer than six of the seven races were won by horses who had either won or been placed at a previous festival. The odd one out was the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle, but the novice races are always going to feature no more than a handful who either ran in the Champion Bumper the year before or are in their second season over hurdles.

All told 13 of the 28 races were won by horses who had at least placed at a previous festival and six of those went off at odds ranging from 8-1 to 20-1, so it's not just the obvious ones who come back for more.
