The first page of the Racing Post I always turn to on a Saturday during the summer is the Richard Hughes column.

Hughesie tells it from the heart, and he often produces little gems of wisdom that can put punters on the right track.

In his latest column he wrote: “Paco’s Angel won despite not enjoying the good to soft ground. I knew in advance she wouldn’t like it but we still ran her. That’s because one of the many things I learned from the Hannons is sometimes you can’t tick all the boxes when it comes to matching a horse to a race. Sometimes a race comes along you just have to run in. Now and again you must take a chance, otherwise you’ll end up winning nothing.”
