Ayr Placepot tips: Graeme Rodway goes in search of soft-ground specialists

With lots of rain forecast, soft-ground specialists will be needed in the Placepot at Ayr.

Royal Regent handles soft conditions and rates one of the best bets of the day in the opening 1m2f handicap (1.15). He loves this course and appears to be running back into form.

Provided all eight runners line up, it’s worth going with a banker in the mile novice (1.50). Radetsky Marsch was a good third on his debut at Sandown and that was on soft going.

The mile handicap (2.25) looks more difficult. Breckland has plenty of form with cut in the ground and looks sure to run well, while Mac Ailey is no forlorn hope on testing conditions.

Aberama Gold has a huge chance in the 6f handicap (3.00) and must be included. However, it’s another wide-open race and Black Friday has a decent record on soft ground. He also goes in.

Tommy G has run plenty of good races at Ayr and could go well in the 7f handicap (3.35), but more coverage will be needed in the last leg (4.10). One Last Hug and Spartakos appeal most.
