Aintree Placepot picks: Paul Kealy chases the £250,000 guaranteed Saturday pool
The pool for the Aintree Placepot is guaranteed at a minimum £250,000, so it's well worth going for.
I'd be tempted to bank in the first (12.26) and load up afterwards, and Dan Skelton's fits the bill.
He looked quite smart in a couple of admittedly weak bumpers, and the trainer has had two winners and two seconds in this from four runners in the past five years.
The next (1.01) is tricky as it's a hurdle race full of chasers. Ultima runner-up Gericault Roque is being primed for the Coral Gold Cup and is probably the one to beat, but I'll add , who has had his share of hold-ups but has a record of going well fresh.
Five promising horses make their chase debuts in the next (1.36). You could easily make a case for all of them, but , second to Gelino Bello here on his first start over hurdles last season, and , representing last year's winning stable, are the picks.
On to the Grand Sefton (2.11), in which is a must as he has twice been placed over the Grand National fences.
My other two are , who is the potential class act in the race, while the prominent-racing is certainly handicapped to play a hand.
The next (2.45) is effectively a three-runner race, and with Langer Dan rated at least 7lb inferior to and yet giving them 4lb, he's the one left out.
You could make a case for all six in the final leg of the Placepot (3.18), but my two are , who was runner-up in the race last year, and , who should have more to come for Venetia Williams this season and won first time out last term.
