Plenty in the Silver Cup are more fancied, but the body of form that Regal Encore has built up around Ascot over the years counts for something when trying to find a horse to make the first three in this competitive heat.

After getting fit off a spin at Chepstow, he was second in a Grade 3 handicap over course and distance in November. The winner, Vinndication, flew in that day and is set for Grade 1s, so there was clearly no disgrace in that run.

Last time, Regal Encore ran in the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury. He was still in there pitching when belting the cross fence, a mistake from which it would prove impossible to recover given how that race panned out. He was ultimately pulled up, but it was not that bad a run.

Returned to Ascot, into a race he won three years ago off a slightly higher mark, Regal Encore's chances of getting involved and rewarding his buyers on the spread are arguably understated.
