Warnings to be heeded but reasons for optimism remain as Tattersalls enters second week

A comment by the insightful Julian Dollar might have best summed up a Tattersalls Book 1 which had its usual seven-figure headline makers and nearly 130,000,000gns redistributed around racing's ecosystem but left one question hanging in the air.

Most notable during the three days of trade was that the yearlings which had captured the attention of the most significant purchasing triumvirate – Godolphin, Amo Racing and Coolmore – were consequently capable of making vast sums but that it became trickier for those not on their shortlists.

"Without them, where would we be?" observed the manager of Book 1's leading consignor Newsells Park Stud, as he compared the situation in Europe to that of America, where there are many other entities capable of spending big.
