Star chaser Douvan's dam to stick with winning formula
Daughter of Saint Des Saints has already produced a brother to the eight-time Grade 1 winner
Why change a winning formula? That is the approach taken by the owner of Douvan's dam Star Face, who is returning to the exceptional chaser's sire Walk In The Park this year.
Star Face was bought by Tunisian breeder Lotfi Kohli through agent Marc-Antoine Berghgracht for just €2,000 at the Arqana February Sale in 2012, when her first foal Douvan was an unraced two-year-old.
The 13-year-old daughter of Saint Des Saints subsequently produced a filly by Charming Groom in Tunisia in 2013 – she has been sold privately into Willie Mullins' yard – and delivered a brother to Douvan last year.
Berghgracht reported the yearling colt was “doing very well”.
He added that Star Face was covered by Walk In The Park last year but was barren to him.
She was part of a glittering book of mares in the stallion's first season on the Coolmore National Hunt roster, along with the dams of Altior, Cue Card and Native River and the great hurdling mare Quevega.
Walk In The Park will stand at Grange Stud in County Cork at a private fee again this year.
The son of Montjeu is also the sire of Grade 1-winning novice chaser Min and talented handicap chaser Antony from few representatives in Britain and Ireland.
His finest advertisement, Douvan, is unbeaten in 13 starts for Willie Mullins including in the Grade 2 Tied Cottage Stakes this month. He is long odds-on for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham.
