B Wayne Hughes’ Spendthrift Farm is partnering with Ruis Racing on the future stallion career of its undefeated multiple Grade 1-winning two-year-old Bolt D’Oro.

Bolt D’Oro kept his perfect record intact in the with his most dominant performance to date in the FrontRunner Stakes at Santa Anita on Saturday, winning by seven and three quarters of a length.

He earned a 100 Beyer – by far the fastest by a two-year-old in 2017 – for the performance, which made it three wins in as many starts and made him the early favourite for next month’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Del Mar, a track at which he already has two victories.

Bolt D’Oro broke his maiden at first asking over 6½f at Del Mar in August. On his second start there last month, the dark bay colt earned the first of two Grade 1 wins after his proved best in the Del Mar Futurity over 7f.

“I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Mick [Ruis, the owner and trainer] and his family,” said Hughes. “They're great people, and I’m thrilled to be in partnership with them, particularly on such an exciting young colt as Bolt D’Oro. I think we're seeing a budding superstar. It’s going to be a lot of fun watching his career develop.”

Ruis Racing, which acquired Bolt D’Oro for $630,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select sale, will continue to campaign the son of Medaglia D’Oro for the remainder of his racing career. Upon retirement, Bolt D’Oro will enter stud at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky.

“It wasn’t all about money when finding a partner to stand Bolt D’Oro at stud,” said Ruis. “It was about being able to partner with B Wayne Hughes.”

Bolt D’Oro is out of the A.P. Indy mare Globe Trot from the family of Grade 1 winner Zensational.
