Seven days left to register for bonus scheme
Chance for owners to win one of the 550 £10,000 bonuses in 2017
Owners have seven days left to register their horses for the Plus 10 bonus scheme with the deadline for paying the registration fee on February 28.
If registered for the scheme, owners and trainers will qualify their horses to win one of the 550 £10,000 bonuses which will be on offer in Britain and Ireland during 2017. The bonus will be shared between the owner, breeder, trainer, jockey and stable staff.
If the owner registration fee is not paid by February 28, the opportunity to win a bonus will be forfeited.
Since 2015, more than £8 million in bonus prize-money has been won, shared among owners, breeders and trainers of around 770 horses.
Garrett Freyne, who won a bonus with smart filly Joyce Compton in a two-year-old nursery handicap at Gowran Park last year, said: “It was brilliant to win a Plus 10 bonus last season, it’s an amazing plus. Winning a bonus meant I took home nearly €17,000 in prize-money which went a long way towards subsidising the cost of the horse.
“I always look to buy Plus 10-registered horses at the sales so I have the chance to win a bonus. I would be mad not to, it’s a no-brainer.”
Simon Bridge, director of the Ontoawinner syndicate, added: “Winning a Plus 10 bonus makes such a huge difference to prize-money. It is an absolutely fantastic initiative and a great reward for a syndicate, often you can treble prize-money. I always make sure to qualify Ontoawinner horses for Plus 10.”
