An Englishman, an Irishman and an Australian: it sounds like the set-up for a gag. But this particular triumvirate are engaged in deadly serious business, as breeze-up consignors Star Bloodstock.

The operation was formed by Matthew Eves, the Englishman; while the men at the coalface are Irishman and former jockey Mickey Cleere, a naturally gifted horseman who is charged with preparing the horses; and the Australian Bryon Rogers, whose scientific and data-driven approach to yearling selection is central to sourcing the raw materials.

This is only the second breeze-up season for Star Bloodstock. To have put themselves in a position to return to the market in such a competitive sector is no mean feat in itself - and they do so, with a bigger team of horses sourced from, and to be sold at, a wider variety of locations.
