Stallion Gutaifan is heading to Hungary after achieving €30,000 during the mixed Auctav September Online Sale on Wednesday. It was the joint top price of the auction along with well-bred trotter Neptune De Blary.

Horvath Balazs, stud manager of Babolna National Stud, had been keeping an eye on the sire's progeny and in particular because a daughter, Vain Hope, is a champion female sprinter in the country.

Gutaifan, winner of the Prix Robert Papin and Flying Childers Stakes in his sole racing season, began his stallion career at Yeomanstown Stud but has been at Haras des Faunes, which offered him, for the past five seasons. The son of Dark Angel is the sire of Grade 1 winner Fev Rover.

Balazs said: "We bought a broodmare in foal to Gutaifan some time ago. We really like his pedigree and his profile suits our market very well. We were also looking for another stallion to keep company with our pool, which already includes the former Wertheimer runner Ecrivain.

"The fact that he has already produced a Group 2 winner here in Hungary was also a very strong selling point."

Elsewhere in the sale a share in Wooded went to Yvette Pantall for €13,000 and one in Van Beethoven was sold to Fabrice Carle for €5,000. A fee of €20,000 was agreed for Katkobella, in foal to Feed The Flame, to breeder Philippe Goupil. The mare is from the family of Kotkijet, Kotkita and Kotkieglote.

Goupil said: "She belongs to one of the finest families in France. It was really her pedigree page that caught my eye."
