I Am Invincible colt tops final day of Perth Yearling Sale

The second and final day of the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale was topped by an I Am Invincible colt when selling to Rosehill-based trainer Gary Moore for A$265,000 (£385,536/€454,296).

Moore is no stranger to this sale having purchased the top lot at last year’s auction and would not be denied in taking home Tuesday’s session topper.

The colt is the first foal out of the Listed-winning Oratorio mare Miss Solis and is from the family of Melbourne Cup hero Jezabeel and the Group scorers Frontier Boy and Ashley Grove.

Moore said: “He’s from a great mare and by one of our better stallions in Australia. For me he was the pick of the sale. I think he will go early [as a two-year-old].

“When you have brother John spending A$560,000 on a filly by I Am Invincible I think this horses is a very good buy. I really wanted a two-year-old. We’re so keen on getting a top-class juvenile. Takedown won at two and trained on. This could be the bloke to do it for me.”

A half-brother to Group 3 winner Silent Sedition by first-season sire Gingerbread Man was the second highest-priced lot on Tuesday when selling to Aqua Trained Thoroughbreds in partnership with Andrew Noblet for A$170,000 (£104,866/€123,568).

Offered by Korilya Stud he is out of the unraced Dubai Destination mare Fiorentina, herself a half-sister to Group 1 scorer Monterosso, and is a grandson of Coolmore Classic scorer Porto Roca.

Over the two days, 254 yearlings were sold for a total of A$9,359,000 (£5,771,936/€6,802,778), down ten per cent on last year’s aggregate of A$10,429,000 (£6,431,414/€7,580,279). The average price also fell 10 per cent to A$36,846 (£22,720/€26,779) from A$41,059 (£25,315/€29,841) and the median dropped 13 per cent to A$26,000 (£16,028/€18,894) from A$30,000 (£18,497/€21,799).

Magic Millions managing director Vin Cox said: “It did improve on Monday’s market. We can’t get away from the statistics - it has been a tougher sale than it was last year. Having said that, there’s been a number of positives and exciting things coming out of this sale.

“Getting A$325,000 on Monday for the Not A Single Doubt colt and A$265,000 on Tuesday for the I Am Invincible colt to Gary Moore, there were some great scenes after the purchase of that horse, that was great fun.

“There were vendors who had very good sales. I just had one tell me he’s never had a better sale in 40 years.”
