There were far more expensive horses who sold at the BBAG Yearling Sale on Friday, but the sale of Stauffenberg Bloodstock’s first-crop son of Mishriff and the Listed-placed Cable Bay mare Belle Anglaise for €40,000 caught the eye.

He became the first offspring of his multiple Group 1-winning sire purchased to enter his former home of Clarehaven Stables.

Thady Gosden, who signed the docket, said: “Mishriff was an exceptionally talented colt and this chap is a well-topped, good-bodied horse. He’s out of a fast mare and the consignor does an excellent job, so he seemed worth taking a chance on.

“He’s the first Mishriff we’ve bought. His yearlings certainly look the part. There were some nice examples in Deauville and one or two here as well, including this colt. We’ve bought him on spec, and we’ll see how we go.”

Mishriff, a son of Make Believe from his owner-breeder Prince Faisal’s stallion-making family of Invincible Spirit and Kodiac, won the Prix du Jockey Club, Saudi Cup, Dubai Sheema Classic and Juddmonte International and finished in the money in five more Group 1s in a stellar career.

He stands under the Sumbe banner at Haras de Montfort et Preaux at €12,500.

Gosden was making his first appearance in Baden-Baden after an absence of a few years.

“It’s great to be at the sale again, there’s a real buzz about it thanks to all the success it’s had in recent years,” he said.

“Our Preis der Diana winner Miss Yoda was bought here with Tom Goff of Blandford Bloodstock a few years ago, and we wouldn’t mind a few more like that.”
