Farhh filly breaks six-figure barrier on day two of Book 3

A daughter of Farhh stole the show during the penultimate session of Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Sale yesterday when selling for 110,000gns to Joe Foley.

The filly, bred by Rabbah Bloodstock and sold through Barton Stud, was the leading act of a day that was otherwise relatively low key, as illustrated by an average of 11,492gns for 156 yearlings sold.

The session-topping filly is destined for a career in the colours of Steve Parkin's Clipper Logistics.

"She wouldn't have looked out of place in Book 1," said Foley. "I only saw her this morning - Tom Blain of Barton Stud was extremely complimentary about her and he was right as she's a stunning filly.

"It's a good family - we particularly liked the Kodiac filly out of the half-sister Dot Hill who was here earlier in the week [she sold for 125,000gns] and this one is by a stallion who made a very good start at stud."

Demand for the progeny of Farhh continued into the evening, with Stroud Coleman going to 40,000gns for a colt from the family of Park Express Stakes winner Oh Goodness Me who was also bred by Rabbah Bloodstock.

His price was later matched by a Dansili filly out of Listed winner Souviens Toi who was snapped up by Nick Bradley out of The Castlebridge Consignment.

Elkington celebration

Cause for celebration came the way of Jane Keir's Elkington Stud during the evening session as Amanda Skiffington outbid Matt Coleman at 90,000gns for their homebred Mukhadram colt.

Roger Charlton is set to train the colt, who is out of the placed Skyrider, a Dalakhani sister to Italian Group 3 winner Gothic Dance who is from the further family of Charlton's Haydock Sprint Cup winner Tante Rose.

"It's the best result we've ever had," said the Oxfordshire-based Keir, who owns eight mares. "He's been prepped incredibly well - the team at home have done a very good job. He really improved during prep, he blossomed just at the right time. The timing was perfect.

"I think he's a versatile type of horse, he could do anything."

Skyrider was bought by Keir for just 6,000gns through Charlie Gordon-Watson at the 2010 Tattersalls December Sale.

"She's a nice, correct mare and her first foal is a winner," added Keir. "I liked Mukhadram when I saw him racing and this mare needs a bit of size. Mukhadram is a stallion who looks the part - I thought this colt was very like his sire and I hope he does him proud."

Breeze-up boys continue to stock up

The breeze-up fraternity were still busy stocking up on talent for next year, among them Norman Williamson, who went to 42,000gns for a Havana Gold colt sold by breeder Glebe Farm Stud through Houghton Bloodstock.

"He'll come back to sell in the spring somewhere," said Williamson of the colt who is a half-brother to the Listed-placed pair Tata Pila and Fizzy Friday. "He's got a bit of size and scope. The sire has made a good start and the mare is proven. Hopefully he'll go the right way."

Active family attracts Cheveley Park

It was also a successful morning for the Brookside Breeders Club as the vendor of a Nathaniel filly who was snapped up by Cheveley Park Stud for 37,000gns.

Chris Richardson outbid James Wigan for the Nathaniel filly, who boasted one of the best pages of the day as a half-sister to Listed winner Crystal Gal and granddaughter Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Classic Park, herself Aidan O'Brien's first Classic winner.

This family was in the spotlight only last week when a filly out of Park Crystal's half-sister Soon made 1.3 million guineas.

"Obviously there's plenty of action going on on the page," said Richardson, "and Mr Thompson expressed an interest in buying a Nathaniel over the past fortnight. She'll be given plenty of time and should stay well."

The filly was bred in Newmarket by the Brookside Breeders Club, an initiative set up by John 'Jinks' James as a means of attracting smaller breeders to the sport.

"We now have four horses and each is owned by a differing syndicate made up of differing people, we call the groups BBC1, BBC2 etc," said James.

"The page is all there on this filly and we're really pleased she is going to Cheveley Park - they will give her all the time she needs."
