A total of 340 two-year-old colts and fillies have had entries confirmed following the second qualification stage for Arqana’s inaugural October Yearling Sale Criterium, which will take place on September 30.

The race is for horses who were offered at the company’s October Yearling Sale last year. They are eligible for the contest, which will be run a day before the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

A total of €250,000 of prize-money is guaranteed for the race with the winner taking home a sum of €125,000.

The next confirmation stage for the race is May 31 at a cost of €250 per horse before a final entry around ten days before the race.

Arqana president Eric Hoyeau said: “The concept of an auction race in Britain and Ireland is very popular but less used in France. We are therefore very satisfied with the number of owners that have signed up for this initiative and have chosen to take the opportunity to have a runner during Arc weekend in a race that is worth a lot of money.

“We welcome the promotion of this new race which has already strengthened the reputation of the October Yearling Sale, which, it must be remembered, constitutes the largest outlet for French breeding.”
