Heading down under? December-foaled Great House added to Online August Sale
Four new wildcards were listed by Tattersalls on Thursday
The Donnacha O'Brien-trained maiden winner Great House is likely to capture the attention of southern hemisphere buyers when the son of Galileo is offered as part of the Tattersalls Online August Sale next week.
Great House was one of four wildcard entries to be added to the sale on Thursday and opened his account at Limerick in June on his second start - a feat made all the more remarkable based on his birthdate in late December - to provide his trainer with his first turf winner.
The Coolmore homebred holds entries in both a trial stakes and the actual Irish St Leger, and would have an even better chance at the weights were he to compete down under.
His unusual background is reminiscent of Russian Camelot, who in May became the first northern-hemisphere bred to capture a Derby in Australia, with success in the South Australian version. The Danny O'Brien-trained colt, who was foaled in March 2017, had to carry the same weight as his rivals, one of whom was born the previous August.
In any case, a move to the southern hemisphere would certainly help the cause of Great House, and so it will be interesting to see who the successful bidder will be.
The other three wildcards are Curragh maiden winner Coill Avon, a two-year-old son of Kingman and the first produce of Group 3 winner Czabo, who will be offered by Ger Lyon's Glenburnie Stables; Diantha, a four-year-old half-sister to this year's Group 2 Dante Stakes hero Thunderous; and the five-year-old Dream Ahead mare Sweety Dream, winner of the Group 3 Prix Miesque over seven furlongs at two.
The latter two are both carrying to Night Of Thunder, the sire of Thunderous.
A total of 12 entries have now been catalogued for the Online August Sale, the second online sale to be run by Tattersalls. Bidding will open at midday on Wednesday, August 12, and will conclude at midday on Friday, August 14.
