Goffs Tingle Creek Sale to provide added excitement to high-class meeting
Past graduates include Nicky Henderson star Jonbon
Goffs will break new ground on Saturday when it brings a live sale of point-to-point prospects to Sandown Park.
The Tingle Creek Sale will begin after the final race has been run at 3.30pm and is essentially replacing an event which has been staged in recent years at Yorton Farm. That was the venue two years ago where Jonbon, set to contest the Close Brothers Henry VIII Novices' Chase, sold for no less than £570,000.
Goffs group chief executive Henry Beeby said: "There are small windows for the boutique point-to-point market through the autumn, and through the Covid years the Yorton team have very kindly facilitated us at that time of year.
"Yorton was a wonderful venue and it's no reflection on them, we hosted their very successful sale there in September and hope that will continue, but we do prefer to link this sale to a race meeting.
"We used to hold a sale at Newbury in conjunction with what is now the Coral Gold Cup, was the Hennessy but the area we had to show the horses kind of got swallowed up by part of the development there."
The action itself will see individual lots led into the winner's enclosure, where the auctioneer will stand on the victory podium.
"We know Nick Mustoe very well, he buys horses with us and has taken over as chairman at Sandown," Beeby continued. "Our Aintree and Punchestown sales were well received at a big meeting and we thought the Tingle Creek would be absolutely ideal. Nick was immediately enthusiastic and has been amazing with his team at Sandown.
"We have 18 stables and filled 17, it has been well supported by vendors and we're looking forward to it. We've sponsored there but never held sales with Goffs or in the early days with DBS but we've got a really nice lawn area, we've put rubber down there and it'll be very horse and people friendly. We will kick on straight after the last and it's a nice little add-on to the day."
Another Jonbon would be expecting a lot but there are a handful of obvious contenders to make big six-figure sums. Flash In The Park, by the same sire Walk In The Park, is related to recent Grade 2 winner Darrens Hope and won by 20 lengths at Knockmullen House for Donnchadh Doyle.
Southoftheborder, a first winner as a trainer for the outstanding rider Derek O'Connor, ranks as another to follow for the future.
