Deep Impact yearlings set to take starring role at JHRA Select Sale
Late sire has 13 catalogued for Monday's opening session
Monday’s JRHA Select Sale represents perhaps the last time for owners to buy a piece of Japan’s totemic sire with 13 yearling sons and daughters of the late Deep Impact set to go through the ring at the Northern Horse Park.
A champion both as a racehorse and a stallion, Deep Impact died just under a year ago aged 17 after accumulating issues with his neck.
He had been rested for most of the covering season and is thought to have a final crop of around 20 foals, all of whom are expected to remain in private hands.
His progeny have always in been great demand, no more so than at last year's event when a son of ex-French mare Musical Way set a new record price for a yearling colt when bought by Riichi Kondo for ¥360,000,000 (£2,668,000/€2,981,000).
Among the catalogue are Shadai Farm's half-brothers to French Guineas winner La Cressonniere (lot 67) and Prix Rothschild scorer Qemah (126), while Northern Farm offers a daughter of Marco Botti's globe-trotting Grade 1 winner Euro Charline (171).
Northern Farm's consignment includes another famous sibling at lot 12 in a Harbinger full-brother to Deirdre, last year's Nassau Stakes winner who has made Newmarket her home-from-home.
Monday's yearling session features a few cherry-picked overseas recruits among the domestic talent with progeny of American Pharoah, Caravaggio, Dark Angel and No Nay Never also catalogued.
Tuesday's foal sale is expected to be just as popular with buyers and Golden Horn, Lope De Vega and Saxon Warrior each have a youngster due to go under the hammer.
