Queen Of The Stage, the dam of the brilliant Constitution Hill, lived up to her name when selling to Dash Grange Stud for £340,000 at the Goffs Online Sale on Tuesday.

A daughter of King's Theatre and a winning and Listed-placed performer during her own racing days, the 12-year-old has made an exceptional start to her second career through the exploits of her Supreme Novices' Hurdle-winning son.

The Blue Bresil gelding is himself a graduate of Goffs UK, when selling to Seven Barrows for £120,000 at last year's Spring Horses in Training Sale, while he was picked up by Barry Geraghty and Warren Ewing from the Tattersalls Ireland November National Hunt Sale as a foal in 2017.

The hugely talented five-year-old has made it three wins from as many starts over hurdles for Nicky Henderson and Michael Buckley, producing a record-breaking effort in the opening race at this year's Cheltenham Festival, having also struck by 14 lengths in the Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown in January.

A delighted Jayne McGivern said of her new purchase: "I felt honoured just having the opportunity to bid on her, so to buy her is fantastic.

"She's proven in that she's produced a fantastic racehorse, but the thing with my little operation is about the quality of the mare. I've been holding off until the right one came along, and this will be my third addition after Jelan and Buildmeupbuttercup, who I'm over the moon with.

"I've been the bridesmaid for what has felt like one hundred times, I was the underbidder on Apple's Jade, I was very close to being the underbidder on Put The Kettle On, and so I think this was fate.

"Although Apple's Jade and Put The Kettle On are both fantastic racehorses and I'd have given anything to have owned them, the difference is that Queen Of The Stage is a proven broodmare."

Queen Of The Stage is in foal to Glenview Stud sire Blue Bresil, meaning she will have a full-sibling to the dual Grade 1 hero next spring, with Oxfordshire-based McGivern hoping for a sister to the Seven Barrows inmate.

She said: "If it's a filly I'll almost certainly keep her, Buildmeupbuttercup's just had a lovely filly foal by Crystal Ocean and we'll keep her too. They'll both race but we're keeping her as well. I just want quality over quantity and I think she is an absolute bargain.

"She's a beautiful mare and has produced beautiful offspring, her Flemensfirth foal is in training with Jonjo [ONeill] and I'll be interested to see how he gets on, while she has one by Jack Hobbs that recently sold.

"I think Dash Grange Stud is in a good place, we've got some beautiful mares and we've got shares in some lovely stallions. We're good to go!"

Queen Of The Stage is out of the Supreme Leader mare Supreme Du Casse, a winner over hurdles for Denise Foster and a half-sister to Royal Chukka and Super Gale, the duo being out of a Strong Gale half-sister to Fairyhouse Grade 3 hurdles winner My Sunny Glen and multiple winner under rules Villon.

Goffs UK managing director Tim Kent said: "Today's online auction produced a superb price and we would like to thank Phil and Sally Noott for entrusting their Grade 1-producing mare to sell with Goffs via our proven online platform.

"Queen Of The Stage is the second high-class National Hunt mare to be sold by Goffs this year, with Put The Kettle On selling at our Aintree Sale, so to have achieved wonderful prices both in the ring and online is very pleasing and demonstrates Goffs’ ability to deliver in both spheres."

He added: "Constitution Hill certainly shapes as one of the most exciting National Hunt horses in training, he looks to have a huge future in front of him and we wish the Dash Grange Stud team all the very best of luck with her."
