British-bred Grade 2 winner La Dragontea to be offered for sale at Fasig-Tipton

Fasig-Tipton has added another Graded stakes winner to its upcoming November Sale in the shape of La Dragontea, who was most recently second in Woodbine’s Grade 1 EP Taylor Stakes on Sunday.

She has been catalogued as hip 267 and will be consigned as a racing/broodmare prospect by Hunter Valley Farm, agent.

The daughter of Lope De Vega was bred by Bartisan Racing and sold for 67,000gns to Stephen Hillen at last year's Tattersalls December Mares Sale, from the Highclere draft.

That was after she had shown decent form for the Michael Bell yard, winning at Chelmsford and being in the money on a further four occasions, carrying the silks of her breeder.

Switched to the yard of Christophe Clement following her appearance at Park Paddocks, she has blossomed as a four-year-old in North America, winning four times including in the Grade 2 Canadian Stakes at Woodbine in September, and then being touched off at the same track by a neck by Mutamakina last weekend.

Ballylinch Stud's Lope De Vega, who stood this year for €125,000, is the sire of 49 Group or Graded stakes winners, 13 of which are Group or Grade 1.

La Dragontea's dam La Concorde, a winning daughter of Sadler's Wells, is closely related to European champion and champion sire Montjeu. Her immediate family includes Group 1 winners Galileo Gold, Goldream, Again and Aclaim.

“La Dragontea should appeal to a wide variety of racing and breeding operations,” said Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning.

“She is beautifully bred, has current Grade 1 form, and at just four years old she has a lot of racing still ahead of her.”

The Fasig-Tipton November Sale will be held on Tuesday, November 9, in Lexington, Kentucky.
