Arqana race series to kick off in 2023 with €1.2 million in prize-money on offer

Details have been released about the new Arqana Series, a schedule of races reserved for colts and fillies offered at the Deauville sales, with €1.2 million in guaranteed minimum prize-money on offer.

The series will be run at Deauville and Longchamp, with the first three races for two-year-olds being run at Deauville's August meeting on Thursday, August 10 next year. The race for three-year-olds will take place in 2024.

The five races are programmed as below:

The five races in the series will be open to young horses offered at the 2022 August Yearling Sale, September Yearling Sale, October Yearling Sale, November Yearling Sale and 2023 Breeze-Up Sale.

Foals who are sold at the 2022 Vente d'Élevage will also be eligible for the 2024 series. Horses who have been sold and bought back at the sales are eligible, although those who have been withdrawn cannot take part.

The owner of a horse eligible for the series has to register their horse before June 1, 2023 for a total of €1,000 for the two-year-old races. The nomination for the three-year-old race is €500 and must be paid by June 1,2024.

The races for the unraced two-year-old colts and fillies will be run for a minimum of €170,000 and will be split as follows:

  • Prize-money for owner: €75,000 (1st); €37,500 (2nd); €18,750 (3rd); €9,375 (4th); €4,688 (5th)

  • Prize-money for the vendor*: €10,000 (1st); €5,000 (2nd); €2,500 (3rd), €1,250 (4th); €625 (5th)

Conditions races for two and three-year-olds will offer total prize-money for a minimum of €290,000:

  • Prize-money for owner: €130,000 (1st); €65,000 (2nd); €32,500 (3rd); €16,250 (4th); €8,125 (5th)

  • Prize-money for the vendor*: €15,000 (1st), €7,500 (2nd); €3,750 (3rd); €1,875 (4th); €938 (5th)

*Vendor's prize-money will be allocated to the owners of the horse at the time of the sale and will be divided among the vendors in case of successive sales

A guaranteed minimum of €1.2 million in prize-money will be on offer, although the final amount will be known only after June 1 and will be revised accordingly.
