Expert Eye back to best to continue great week for Khalid Abdullah
Second Royal Ascot winner for Acclamation after Equiano
Expert Eye continued the fine form of Juddmonte-bred runners at Royal Ascot this week as he returned to something like his best to run away with the Jersey Stakes on Wednesday.
Things have not gone to plan for the Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt since his superb win in last summer's Vintage Stakes at Goodwood but Wednesday's performance, his first win since that day, saw him become the second Royal Ascot winner for his sire, the Rathbarry Stud-based Acclamation, following Equiano.
It also follows victories on the opening day of the royal meeting for Juddmonte-breds Calyx and Monarchs Glen in the famous Khalid Abdullah silks.
Wednesday's results and replays
Expert Eye, one of 46 stakes winners for Acclamation, is out of Exemplify, a daughter of Juddmonte's recently pensioned Dansili and a half-sister to the Classic-winning Special Duty.
Exemplify's dam, meanwhile, is the Distant View mare Quest To Peak, herself a sister to the multiple Grade 1 winner Sightseek and the fellow top-level scorer Tates Creek.
"He was a very good two-year-old last year and it was so satisfying to see him back to this sort of form," said Stoute.
"We hadn't seen him at his best [this year] but fortunately he's nearly back there now."
Society Power, a son of the late Society Rock and a half-brother to the Italian Listed scorer Evil Spell, took second in the Jersey Stakes, with Uncle Mo's War Front half-sister Could It Be Love back in third.
