Technician, a son of the late Mastercraftsman who won the Prix Royal-Oak for Martyn Meade and Team Valor, will stand at Haras de Montaigu for the upcoming breeding season in a deal brokered by Richard Venn.

The five-year-old was third on his sole start at two to subsequent Prix de la Foret scorer Space Blues in a Nottingham maiden, before opening his account on his first start at three in a Leicester novice contest.

Second to Bangkok in Sandown's Classic Trial, he improved on his fifth in the Chester Vase to picked up the Listed Prix Ridgway at Longchamp, before a sixth in the Gordon Stakes and then success in the Geoffrey Freer Stakes.

Having finished sixth to Logician in the St Leger, Technician won the Prix Chaudenay in taking fashion before his Prix Royal-Oak success over high-class French stayer Call The Wind. He was retired after injuring a tendon in last year's Gold Cup behind Stradivarius.

Technician is one of 17 top-flight winners for his late sire, who has stallion sons in Kingston Hill and first-season sire The Grey Gatsby at Castle Hyde Stud and Haras du Petit Tellier. The latter is responsible for four individual winners headed by stakes scorer Mylady.

Bred by Barronstown Stud, Technician sold to Dermot Farrington for €40,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale in 2017.

He is the seventh foal out of the winning Sadler's Wells mare Arosa, a full-sister to dual European Group 2 scorer Crimson Tide and Cork Group 3 scorer Tamarind, as well as a half-sibling to Prix de Sandringham winner and French 1,000 Guineas fourth Pharatta.

Technician is in turn a half-brother to three winners including Atalanta Stakes third Water Hole, a three-time winning daughter of Oasis Dream.

The grey will be syndicated at Haras de Montaigu, where he will join a roster that includes Jimmy Two Times, Beaumec De Houelle, Night Wish and No Risk At All.
