Poliglote will cover a limited book of mares in 2017 as Haras d’Etreham seek to manage his long term career. The son of Sadler’s Wells will turn 25 on January 1.

Sire of dual Cheltenham Festival winner Don Poli and this season’s Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris winner, So French, Poliglote holds the distinction of having been Champion sire in France across both codes in 2012, courtesy of Solemia’s victory in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

The highlight of Poliglote’s racing career for the Wertheimer family came when beaten half a length by Celtic Swing in 1995 Prix du Jockey Club.

“Poliglote is still fertile and we are initially looking to book around 20 mares,” said Etreham’s commercial director, Franck Champion. “After that we will see. With age you have to manage these horses and there will be some selectivity in which mares he covers.”

Details of fees for Etreham’s stallion roster will be published in the coming weeks but it is expected that Saint Des Saints will be in line for an increase of “around 20 per cent.”

Also the sire of a Grand Steeple-Chase winner in Storm Of Saintly and a son of the revered Cadoudal, Saint Des Saints stood at a fee of €12,000 this year.

His flagbearer in Ireland and Britain is dual Gold Cup runner-up Djakadam, while stablemate Sabremont - winner of the Grade 2 Flyingbolt Novice Chase - and World Hurdle fifth Aux Ptits Soins look set to further advertise his talents this season.
