Phoenix's investment in Scat Daddy progeny continues to pay off

Kadar powers past Waldstern in the mile novice stakes at Haydock
1 of 1

Kadar became the second two-year-old from the final crop of Scat Daddy to carry the white and orange stars of Phoenix Thoroughbreds to success this week when winning the mile novice stakes at Haydock on Thursday, following on from Mistress Of Love who shed her maiden tag at Newcastle on Monday.

Amer Abdulaziz's Phoenix operation has burst on to the racing and bloodstock scene - parting with $1 million to secure Mistress Of Love from the Keeneland September Yearling Sale and another €700,000 to take home Kadar from this year's Arqana Breeze-Up.

Neither has disappointed so far, with Mistress Of Love accounting for eight rivals on just her second start and Kadar bettering that by winning on debut, seeing off the regally bred Sea The Stars colt Waldstern - whose siblings include Waldgeist and Waldlied - by a length and a quarter.

Kadar has entries in the Goffs Vincent O'Brien National Stakes on Irish Champions Weekend, as well as the Champagne and Royal Lodge Stakes, both Group 2 races.

Bred by Frank Hutchinson, Kadar is out of the Sinndar mare Kaloura, a half-sister to Champion Stakes and Breeders' Cup Turf winner Kalanisi, as well as 1m2f Group 2 winner Kalaman.

Phoenix could continue to reap the rewards from its investment in the final crop of Scat Daddy, with the Ed Vaughan-trained colt Ginger Wolverine entered for the Dewhurst Stakes.

Like Mistress Of Love, he was purchased by Kerri Radcliffe at the Keeneland September Sale for a similarly eye-watering $950,000.
