Darvel's success in the Follow Us On Twitter @chbmedical Novice Stakes at Ayr on Monday saw the Kevin Ryan-trained colt become the 200th winner of Tattersalls' £25,000 October Book 1 Bonus.

The milestone means that Tattersalls has now paid out £5 million in bonuses to owners who purchased a horse from the company's flagship yearling sale.

After the race, the winning trainer, who purchased Darvel for 380,000gns from Mountarmstrong Stud, said: "Darvel was very professional today and is another smart October Book 1 horse for Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum.

"Our owners love the Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonuses for obvious reasons and it is the yearling sale we specifically target. We have now won eight £25,000 bonuses and we will be back at Book 1 in October looking for more."

Global Applause became the first Book 1 Bonus winner back in May 2016 when the 78,000gns buy landed a Newmarket maiden. Of the 200 Book 1 Bonus winners, over 50 per cent have been purchased for less than 150,000gns, with 31 of those having fetched 50,000gns or less.

Commenting on the success of the bonus scheme, which is open to all lots offered at Book 1, Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said: "Two hundred winners and £5 million in extra prize-money is quite a milestone and we would like to congratulate every single winner of a £25,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus.

"Never have opportunities to win significant prize-money been more important to owners in Britain and Ireland and we look forward to welcoming them all back to Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale this autumn."
