Three from the top for Aidan O'Brien at Leopardstown
Ballydoyle trainer gives debut to a trio of Galileo juvenile fillies
Galileo’s contribution to Coolmore’s success was reaffirmed by his remarkable fourth Investec Derby last Saturday and Aidan O’Brien can already start to look forward to the next generation of the wonder-sire’s progeny.
He takes the wraps off no less than three of them in the same race at Leopardstown on Thursday, all of whom have smart relatives to have set an example before they go to post in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden. It is a race O’Brien has used as a stepping stone for high-class performers such as September, Bracelet and Together since the turn of the decade.
The Galileo-Danehill cross, exhibited by Frankel and once again by Anthony Van Dyck at Epsom, is present in the page of Blissful, the mount of Seamie Heffernan whose John Dunlop-trained dam Massarra has been a fine addition to the Coolmore band.
Among her offspring so far are Gustav Klimt, Blissful’s full-brother who landed the Superlative Stakes at two and earned his own place at Coolmore after a string of Group 1 placings. Although her three-year-old sister Fire Fly is no world-beater, her other siblings Mars and Nayarra have been well above average.
Petite Mustique [Wayne Lordan] is another who could be expected to be making her debut over this seven-furlong trip. She was bought for €1,100,000 by Hugo Lascelles at the Goffs November Foal Sale and is from a family Coolmore is well-acquainted with by sister Elizabeth Browning striking at Group 2 level and hard-knocking brother Johannes Vermeer providing many good days including chasing home Rekindling in the Melbourne Cup.
