Tapit's 2019 fee lowered to $225,000

Gainesway has lowered the 2019 stud fee for its three-time leading sire Tapit, who will stand for $225,000 next year.

The 17-year-old son of Pulpit has been standing for $300,000 since 2015, the second year within a stretch of three consecutive years he ranked as North America's leading sire. His book will again be limited to 125 mares.

Tapit has sired 24 Grade 1 winners and seven champions, including Eclipse Award-winning female sprinter Unique Bella, who captured the Beholder Mile and Clement L Hirsch Stakes in 2018.

Tapit is a dominant sire on the racetrack and in the sale ring. During the past five years, he leads all North American sires by progeny earnings as well as yearling sale gross.

He holds the North American sire record for single-season progeny earnings of $19,983,863, when native currencies are converted directly to US dollars.

Tapit has been a top-ten sire since 2011 and currently ranks sixth on the BloodHorse's general leading sire list with $10,037,095 in progeny earnings.

Since 2013, his North American yearling average peaked in 2017 at $791,458 for 24 sold while gross yearling sales topped out at $27,050,000 in 2016 from 43 sold. This year, his yearling average is $591,970 from 33 sold that grossed $19,535,000.
