Stellar offering at festival sale from which Getabird emerged
Getaway gelding was a €200,000 purchase at the 2016 Punchestown Sale
April saw some excellent results on the track for graduates of the Goffs Punchestown Sale with Getabird running out an impressive 12-length winner of a Grade 2 novice hurdle at the Fairyhouse Easter meeting and Vision Des Flos finishing second in a pair of Grade 1 novice hurdles.
This year's boutique sale features a small but select offering with three on offer by the late Beeches Stud resident Gold Well including the four-year-old At The Acorn, an eight-length winner at Rathcannon in mid-April, and the five-year-old Champagne Well, winner of a geldings' maiden on the same card.
The latter is offered by Roisin Hickey's Knockanglass Stables - the same academy from which Champagne Fever and the £250,000 Aintree graduate Champagne Platinum emerged.
Gold Well, an unraced brother to Montjeu, supplied the first and third home in the Irish Grand National earlier this month, but sadly died in 2013 at the age of 12.
Another to warrant plenty of attention is Quoi De Neuf, a nine-length winner of the Ballysteen four-year-old maiden on Sunday. The son of Anzillero - who also sired the third home in that contest - will be offered by Pat Doyle's Suir View Stables for owner Walter Connors.
Also catching the eye is four-year-old Flemensfirth gelding Needham's Gap, offered by Donnchadh Doyle's Monbeg Stables, and Lecale's Article, a son of Malinas consigned by Patrick Turley's Kingsfield Stud.
Needham's Gap was a three-length maiden winner at Courtown on Saturday and is out of a unraced Milan half-sister to Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle second African Gold.
Lecale's Article, meanwhile, was an eight-length winner at Largy the same day, and is out of a sister to Bet365 Handicap Chase winner Fistral Beach and half-sister to the talented hurdle mare Rons Dream.
Among the wildcard entries is Coeur Sublime, a three-year-old son of Elusive Pimpernel who won on his only start over 1m2f at Navan on Monday and who will be offered by his trainer Peter Fahey's Roefield Stables.
