Smart mares join catalogue for Doncaster January Sale
First part of Goffs UK event will be online on January 26
Smart performers La Bague Au Roi and Stormy Ireland have been confirmed among a catalogue now standing at 89 for the first stage of the Doncaster January Sale.
Goffs UK has split the format with a timed online sale of breeding stock and horses-in-training taking place on January 26.
There will be a second part, a physical sale of National Hunt weanlings at the Doncaster Sales Complex on February 17, for which a line-up will be published later.
The first part begins at 10am on that date, with lots closing at intervals. It will open with the horses in training session and entries feature last start winners Brancaster, Premier D'troice, Juge Et Parti, Le Bateau, South Terrace and Paddy The Wire was well as prolific winner Astro Jakk.
Among those to follow are Kauto Star Novices' Chase and Flogas Novices’ Chase winner La Bague Au Roi, dual Grade 3 winner Stormy Ireland and Eglantine Du Seuil, winner of the Dawn Run Mares Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and dual Grade 1 placed. There are many other mares who have been covered by significant National Hunt stallions.
Goffs UK managing director Tim Kent said: "We were all hopeful that we could start off 2021 with a January Sale held on its scheduled date at our Doncaster Sales Complex but new restrictions have meant that is not possible.
"Taking into account that mares are in-foal or are soon to be covered, we wanted to assist breeders and facilitate an outlet for them and hence we have turned to our proven and user-friendly online platform to offer these mares along with the horses-in-training.
"Goffs have demonstrated that online sales can be very effective and that, along with the superb support received from breeders, owners and trainers who have sent us some outstanding horses, gives us confidence that we can conduct another successful online sale.
"This catalogue will be online only, there will be no printed catalogues, and we encourage prospective buyers to keep an eye on their desired lots on Goffs Online as we receive photos, videos, vet certificates, pregnancy and breeding certificates etc. in the build up to the sale."
