A selection of yearlings by French-based and European sires is the order of the day at the Arqana November Yearling Sale, which takes place in Deauville on Saturday.

The sale has produced a high-class graduate this year in the form of French Claim, a son of French Fifteen who was a debut winner at two for Paddy Twomey and a decent fourth in the Group 3 Eyrefield Stakes the following month.

Picked up by Pegasus Bloodstock for just €9,000 at this sale in 2020, French Claim has already more than earned his keep as he was also a fine third to Westover in the Irish Derby in June.

Another graduate who has gone on to good things this term is 2021 Listed Prix du Grand Camp scorer Night Tornado, a three-and-a-half-length winner of the Polish St Leger in September.

With those two horses in mind, there is plenty of upside for buyers this year who are still on the hunt for yearlings. There are lots by French-based sires such as The Grey Gatsby, Dariyan, De Treville, the late Le Havre and Kendargent.

Other notable sires with offerings include Gleneagles, Zoffany, Dream Ahead, Make Believe, Bated Breath, Saxon Warrior and Belardo.

Among the lots to watch are Haras de Castillon's Shalaa colt out of the stakes-placed Frankel mare Middle East (lot 19); Haras de Saint Arnoult's Seabhac colt from the family of this year's July Stakes winner and multiple Group 1-placed Persian Force (44); and Haras des Capucines' Cloth Of Stars half-brother to Group winner Riocorvo out of a Silvano half-sister to Rumh, the dam of Breeders' Cup Turf winner Yibir and multiple Group 1 heroine Wild Illusion (45).

Haras du Lieu des Champs offers the sole lot by Breeders' Cup-winning sire Saxon Warrior in a colt out of the multiple winning Doyen mare Lipari (8), while Haras des Capucines' Bated Breath colt (149b) - another sole lot by a proven sire - has a nice page as a full-sibling to stakes winner and Group-placed Les Hogues.

The sale starts at 11am local time (10am GMT) and the catalogue can be found here.
