Poseidon's Warrior relocates to Darby Dan Farm
Son of Speightstown entered stud in 2014 at Pleasant Acres Stallions
Grade 1 stakes winner Poseidon's Warrior, sire of Grade 1-winning juvenile Firenze Fire, has joined the stallion roster at John Phillips' Darby Dan Farm in Lexington to stand the upcoming breeding season after relocating from Pleasant Acres Farm in Ocala, Florida.
A son of Speightstown bred on the same cross as Smart Strike, Poseidon's Warrior was bred in Maryland by Dark Hollow Farm and William P Beatson out of the multiple stakes-producing Smarten mare Poised To Pounce. He will be offered on Darby Dan Farm's Share the Upside Program and will stand the 2019 breeding season for $6,500 stands and nurses.
"There's a lot to like about Poseidon's Warrior, and we are excited to add him to our roster," said Ryan Norton, stallion director at Darby Dan Farm.
"He has a stallion's pedigree and hails from a strong female family. He is a proven Grade 1 winner and is already making a name for himself as a sire.
"He represents a great opportunity for breeders through our Share the Upside program, and we invite people to come out and see him. We are confident breeders are really going to like him."
Winner of the Grade 1 Alfred G Vanderbilt Handicap at four, Poseidon's Warrior won seven races - five of them stakes - from 21 starts by a combined 31 lengths.
In addition to winning the Vanderbilt, he also captured the NATC Futurity at Monmouth Park by seven lengths at two, the East Hanover Stakes, New Castle Stakes, and Le Bagoter Stakes at 3, and finished third in the Fabulous Strike Handicap at four en route to career earnings of $701,147.
Florida's leading freshman sire of 2017 and the only first-year stallion to sire a Grade 1-winning two-year-old in North America that year, Poseidon's Warrior is represented by last year's Grade 1 Champagne Stakes and Grade 3 Sanford Stakes winner Firenze Fire, victorious this year at three in the Grade 3 Dwyer Stakes, Grade 3 Gallant Bob Stakes, and Jerome Stakes.
Poseidon's Warrior is also the sire of Navy Commander, winner of this year's Long Branch Stakes at Monmouth, and impressive two-year-old Splicethemainbrace, an impressive maiden special weight winner at Parx Racing.
