The Tattersalls August Sale returns for the third year in a one-day format instead of the two days of years gone by, but the international demand for proven British and Irish runners is unlikely to have waned since last year's auction.

Taking place at Park Paddocks from 9.30am on Wednesday, the sale offers a wide variety of choice for potential buyers with drafts from the likes of Godolphin, Juddmonte and Baroda Stud as well as trainers such as Sir Michael Stoute, George Boughey and Richard Hannon sending plentiful numbers of representatives.

We take a look at some of the lots on offer at the sale.

Lot 39 Grigadale
4yo b g Kodiac - Abbey Angel (Arcano)
Maunby House Stables
Already a winner in Ireland for Jarlath Fahey before switching to David and Nicola Barron's yard, the son of Kodiac was a close up third on his stable debut at Ayr before being promoted to first when suffering interference on his next run and adding tidy victory at Thirsk earlier this month.

A half-brother to an American Listed winner in Lucky Girl and out of an Arcano half-sister to City Place scorer Dusky Queen, he looks a rather progressive sort early on in the sale.

Lot 103 Quantico
3yo b c Make Believe - Palladius (Sakhee's Secret)
The Castlebridge Consignment
This son of Make Believe made an eye-catching start to his racing career for Archie Watson when running out a three-length winner of a Chelmsford novice this month, a result boosted by the exploits of the second and third for good measure.

A 21,000gns purchase by Blandford Bloodstock as a yearling from Miller Hill at Tattersalls Ascot, he is out of a winning half-sister to Listed Winkfield Stakes winner Talking Hands and from the family of Anglesey Stakes scorer Air Of Distinction. He looks a promising and lightly raced prospect for new connections.

Lot 120 Mostly Cloudy
3yo b c Harzand - Clarinda (Montjeu)
Barton Sales
A hugely progressive stayer this season for trainer Gemma Tutty, notching up five wins on the bounce - including an easy four-length strike in a Class 3 event at Ascot - before taking fifth when upped in grade in the Lonsdale Cup last time out.

With his sire Harzand now taking up National Hunt duties at stud, there is no reason why his likeable son could not perform a dual-purpose role for new connections. It remains to be seen where his limit lies and he should appeal greatly to a good few, while he is also related to plenty of winners as well.

Lot 187 Auriferous
4yo b g Golden Horn - Sequester (Selkirk)
Park House Stables
Another lot with the potential for a dual-purpose or overseas career. By Golden Horn, who has made a potent start with his first runners over jumps and has been in hot form on the Flat too of late, Auriferous has been a generally consistent sort on the level and his recent efforts suggest he has plenty more to give in both spheres.

The four-year-old, from the family of Beresford Stakes winner Albert Hall, ran a fine race when last seen in a Newbury handicap over two miles and there should be scope for further improvement.

Lot 227 Pulcheria
3yo b f Shamardal - Placidia (Sea The Stars)
Godolphin
Godolphin's draft can always be counted upon to make a splash at the horses in training sales and this filly has a lovely pedigree which should stand her in good stead for the future.

The daughter of Shamardal - the broodmare sire of Awtaad, Hello Youmzain and Latrobe to name but a few - has placed on three of her eight starts, but what is of more interest is the fact she is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Soft Whisper, who further added lustre to the page with a success in the Queen Charlotte Fillies' Stakes last month.

They are out of a winning Sea The Stars half-sister to multiple Group 2 winner and Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud second Policy Maker and the equally high-class Pushkin. She therefore holds plenty of residual value as a broodmare prospect.

Lot 305 Mr McCann
3yo b c Kodiac - Copperbeech - (Red Ransom)
The Castlebridge Consignment
The kind of horse who exemplifies this type of sale - a proven sort yet with the capability of more to come for others - Mr McCann was last seen landing a Class 2 handicap at Haydock to add to three successes for previous trainer Tom Dascombe.

A consistent sort at two, as well as finishing fourth to Native Trail in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket, the colt was a respectable fourth to Maljoom in the German 2,000 Guineas this year also.

He is out of Prix Marcel Boussac third Copperbeech and is a half-brother to two further winners, while his dam is in turn out of Italian Group 3 scorer Aynthia and from the family of Prix de Sandringham winner and Classic-placed Maiden Tower.
