Moyglare Stud Stakes runner Angelic Light among Goffs Champions Sale lots

Longines Irish Champions Weekend kicks off on Saturday with an ultra-select horses-in-training sale staged by Goffs in the parade ring at Leopardstown at 1.30pm.

The auction is held in association with Brown Thomas and the standard of horse on offer is in-keeping with the swanky department store, with nine in the catalogue including a chance to acquire a runner on Irish Champions Weekend.

That individual is lot 2, Angelic Light, a daughter of Dark Angel who was a five-and-a-half-length Curragh maiden winner on her last start and who has been declared for the Moyglare Stud Stakes back at the course on Sunday.

The filly, who is by a popular sire and out of a winning daughter of Zamindar, should command a price a fair amount higher than the €56,000 it took trainer Michael O'Callaghan to buy her at the Goresbridge Breeze-Up Sale in May.

O'Callaghan is also seeking a well-earned profit on a pair of other two-year-olds at the sale: lot 8, Dark Pursuit, a Pastoral Pursuits gelding who won on his only start at Down Royal, and lot 5, Carbon Fibre, a Helmet colt who has run twice and found only the exciting Ten Sovereigns too good in a 25-runner Curragh maiden last time out.

Carbon Fibre was another Goresbridge Breeze-Up purchase at €75,000, while Dark Pursuit was a €20,000 Tattersalls Ireland September yearling.

Three more promising juvenile talents are on offer on Saturday.

Will Be King (lot 3) is a son of Charm Spirit who has finished fourth and third on his first two starts for Patrick Prendergast; Mary Salome (6) is a Madeleine Tylicki-trained Zebedee filly who was second to Angelic Light among 20 runners at the Curragh on her last start; and the Dragon Pulse colt Check My Pulse (7) won a Listowel maiden by clear water for Andrew Slattery on Monday.

The remaining three lots are of the Classic generation, and two of them hail from Jim Bolger's Glebe House Stables.

Cimeara (4) could be the star of the sale, as she has won the Stanerra Stakes and Vinnie Roe Stakes on her last two starts. With only seven runs under her belt there is the promise of more to come on the track, and the daughter of Vocalised holds immense residual value as she is out of a winning Galileo mare from the family of Goldikova.

Bolger's other sale entry is the Dawn Approach filly Dawn Hoofer (1), who has won four races including a valuable Dundalk handicap on her penultimate run.

Shatharaat (9), a Kodiac gelding owned and trained by Andrew Oliver, won a Listowel maiden by two and a quarter lengths on Monday, on his first start since being bought out of Mark Johnston's yard.

Last year's Goffs Champions Sale was topped by the useful two-year-old filly Izzy Bizu, who was knocked down to Tom Malone and daughter Casey for €290,000.
