Looking for the next Zanthos - Arqana hoping to carry huge momentum into V2 session dedicated to precocity

The Arqana V2 Sale is a concentration of more precocious pedigrees than is the case with the three days of the premier August Sale, and as such targets a slightly different kind of buyer.
That said, it seems a fair bet that plenty of people may have missed their intended targets over the weekend, given the astonishing strength at the top of the market, and the sales house will hope that the wave of optimism which carried the August Sale to break every record available still has plenty of momentum moving forward to today's session.
Eight individual first-season sires have horses due to represent them in the ring, and while Blackbeard, Sealiway and Thunder Moon all had a smattering of offerings earlier in the week, this will be the first opportunity to buy a yearling by a diverse collection of freshmen.
British and Irish eyes will pay particularly close attention to the colt (lot 472) and filly (351) by Dalham Hall Stud's Perfect Power, ahead of the sire's four lots heading to Doncaster next week.

French-based sires with their first yearlings through the ring include Ebro River – the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes winner by Galileo Gold standing at Haras de la Haie Neuve – and Keia Nautique (Karwin Farm’s son of Deep Impact), two horses with radically different profiles.
Completing the line-up of newcomers are Haras du Hoguenet's Texas, a son of Wootton Bassett who was runner-up in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains, and Marianafoot, winner of the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest for Jermome Reynier and who now stands at Alain Chopard's Haras des Faunes.
In addition three freshmen had a taste of yearling sales action in the main August catalogue, with Blackbeard's three sales coming in at €100,000, €65,000 and €45,000, while the single sale for both Sealiway and Thunder Moon each made €60,000.

Arqana chief executive Freddy Powell said: "There's clearly a real desire to own and race horses at the moment. You only have to see the full fields for last Thursday's Arqana Series races to see that people want two-year-olds, so we hope that the quality of horses in the catalogue will meet their expectations and the hopes of the vendors.
"We have a fair few yearlings by young sires or out of young mares and developing families, which is what people are searching for.
"And the pinhookers are here and dreaming of a result like the Sioux Nation filly [Zanthos] bought here last year for €48,000 and then transformed into a €1 million breezer, and who won impressively on her debut."
