The Arqana Autumn Sale, a major showcase for National Hunt horses that is held from November 15-17 this year at Deauville, will host the dispersal of Magalen Bryant’s breeding stock.

The late owner-breeder was one of the most well-known National Hunt owners in France, Bryant's colours having shone at the highest level through the excellent performers Milord Thomas, Device, Laterano, Turgot, Tanais Du Chenet, Blue Dragon and So French, among others.

They have also sparkled on the Flat with the Group winners Boris De Deauville, Sandy's Charm and Polyponder.

Commenting on the sale, David Powell, manager of Bryant's interests, said: "Magalen Bryant's colours have won more than 1,200 races to date, including more than 20 Group 1s, and nearly 100 Group winners in total.

"Many of these have been bred by her, such as the champion jumpers Blue Dragon and Laterano, and Polyponder on the Flat. She also bred and sold as yearlings Group 1 winners Noblequest, Nasr El Arab, Pennekamp and Northerly Wind.

"A rigorous selection process, keeping only the best fillies and broodmares, has resulted in an elite broodmare band from families that have been successfully run for generations.”

Consisting of 12 mares, eight yearlings and 11 foals, her breeding stock will be presented across November 16-17 by Haras du Lieu des Champs.

Among the 12 mares offered will be Grand Prix de Pau winner Laterana (lot 703) in foal to Great Pretender, as well as the Prix Jacques de Vienne winner and half-sister to the champion Blue Dragon, Fabulous Dragoness (743), carrying her first foal by Doctor Dino.

On the foal and yearling side are offspring of the much sought-after Doctor Dino, Great Pretender, Kapgarde and Saint Des Saints, of which:

- Lot 687 is a half-brother by Great Pretender to Listed winners Kick On and Kick Up;

- Lot 696 is a colt by Doctor Dino out of Group-placed La Garde Royale;

- Lot 700 is a filly by Saint Des Saints, a first foal out of a half-sister to Group winners Laterano and Laterana;

- Lot 702 is a daughter of Great Pretender out of the very talented and aforementioned Laterana.

Bryant, who was also successful at the highest level in the United States and was a prominent environmentalist based in Virginia, died at the age of 92 in June.
