Lawman filly Rocques extends unbeaten run in Prix d'Aumale
Mile Group 3 contest is restricted to two-year-old fillies
Two-year-old Lawman filly Rocques stamped her credentials for the Prix Marcel Boussac on Arc day as she made it three from three in the mile Group 3 Prix d'Aumale for two-year-fillies at Longchamp on Sunday.
The Fabrice Chappet-trained Rocques was ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot and asserted her superiority in the straight to win by three quarters of a length from Ceratonia, an Oasis Dream half-sister to last year's Marcel Boussac winner Wild Illusion.
Like the winner, Ceratonia is also entered for this year's Marcel Boussac when it returns to Longchamp.
Rocques was bought for €55,000 in a private sale from Haras du Montaigu at the Arqana October Yearling Sale.
She is the second foal out of the Montjeu mare Regina Mundi, who was Listed-placed in Italy and whose first two foals are both winners, the other being her 2015 Kendargent filly Romance D'Amour.
Rocques shares her granddam with the Sword Dancer Stakes winner Glorious Empire, and hails from the further family of Prix de l'Abbaye-winning pair Patavellian and Avonbridge, who are both out of the mare Alessia.
The Prix d'Aumale is not the first juvenile Group race of the year to be won by a horse whose pedigree features Montjeu as damsire, with Flame Of Tara Stakes scorer Just Wonderful out of his daughter Wading.
Montjeu is enjoying a rich spell as a broodmare sire, with his maternal grandson Charm Spirit also impressing with his first-crop runners, with 16 of them finding their way into the winner's enclosure and Yourtimeisnow making all in the Group 3 Shadwell Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes at Salisbury on Thursday to become his first stakes winner.
