Kendargent sets a new benchmark for number of winners in France

Kendargent has broken the record for number of race winners supplied by a stallion in France in a calendar year, with nearly two months of 2019 still to go.

The two-year-old filly Sarriya and three-year-old filly A Court D'Argent became winners 101 and 102 for the son of Kendor on Sunday, to overtake the previous best figure of 100 belonging to Verglas.

Kendargent, a 16-year-old grey, was trained by Yannick Fouin to finish second in the Group 3 Prix Paul de Moussac and fourth in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat before starting his stallion career for owner Guy Pariente amid little fanfare.

Despite having covered small books of unexceptional mares in his early years at stud, he broke through with the likes of Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte winner and Diamond Jubilee Stakes third Restiadargent.

He is now the sire of 55 stakes performers, including nine Group winners and 19 Listed scorers. His roll of honour is headed by Group 2 laurates Jimmy Two Times, Restiadargent, Skalleti and Sky Full Of Stars, as well as Group 1-placed Goken, Kendam, Kenhope and Notte Bianca.

He has two sons at stud, with Goken standing alongside him at Haras de Colleville and Jimmy Two Times based at Gestut Hofgut Heymann.

Kendargent is also beginning to make a name for himself as a broodmare sire, with daughters having produced Pattern winners Diamond Vendome, Kenway and Pourville.

It was fitting that Sarriya, the filly who became the record breaker for Kendargent, was bred and raced by Pariente as his support of the sire has been instrumental in the success story.

Among the progeny of Kendargent bred by Pariente are the sire's two best runners on Racing Post Ratings, Morando and Restiadargent, as well as Sunday's Group 2 Premio Roma victor Skalleti.

The stallion stood at Colleville at a fee of €17,000 this year.
